In the year of 1963, Dr. King stood up in front of Lincoln Memorial to announce that “no, they will never be satisfied” if injustice will still remain, and that he “had a dream that all men are created equal.” He had powerful words, charisma, and ability to inspire people and influence those who were in desperate need for change to stand up and follow him to make a difference.
Dr. King's powerful voice was a "language that inspired change." His speech provided emotional appeal that connects with his people which builds up power and hope within them that the change will be made. His speech provided intellectual statements to awaken those who are unaware. Dr. king's speech gave hope to his people. He made sure that his people will never give up and to never let the white men discriminate against them. He never let his people down. He guided them with all his might and encouraged everyone of his kind, his brothers and sisters, to unite and stand against discrimination. His words not only inspired the black community, but the community of America as a whole.
His choice of location, in my opinion, symbolizes what America is all about. A land where “all man are created equal,” and gave a written “promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the 'unalienable Rights' of 'Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.'” Lincoln who stood behind Dr. King as he spoke, once declared, “I leave you, hoping that the lamp of liberty will burn in your bosoms until there shall no longer be a doubt that all men are created free and equal,” and who neglected and hated slavery, “If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.” Why did the people of America at one point forget or completely ignore the teachings of the man that they all are inspired by? A huge sculpture of him was carved with pride which they named as LINCOLN MEMORIAL, and yet the people did not took his words into consideration. If Dr. King did not consider declaring his speech in front Lincoln Memorial, then I do not think that his point would be as strong as it did. Dr. King reminded the people of America what their leader Abraham Lincoln once proclaimed.
There is only a handful of people out there that has the courage to take the part of a leader. Dr. King is one of those rare people who had the courage to make a change and even say that he would be willing to die for justice to be made. Because of Dr. King, his people are now “free at last.”
I love this quote,” they will never be satisfied as long as there’s injustice”. It’s very superhero-like. I don’t think we’re very satisfied at this present point in time in this nation. I wonder what It’s going to take for us to do something about it. Crises precipitate change. There have been a lot of scandals involving the taking away our civil rights, the deliberate depreciation of the dollar and our housing market and Health Care, not to mention the possible illegal warfare engaged by our government with people here domestically and abroad. The crops are mutated without regulation, our drugs over prescribed and under tested, our vaccines and dangerous even deadly. The water supply has been poisoned for years by fluoride and gasoline additives. We drink bottled water, but the bottle and plastics and general contain pollutants. Vitamins are on the verge of being outlawed because big pharma can’t patent them. Our votes are miscounted, our will and choices misrepresented. Laws are being twisted beyond their original intent and context. Pensions are being robbed, banks and bankrupt companies are being bailed out and privacy is gone as we know it. The price of everything is going up. The value of the dollar is going down. Corporations have more rights than people and democracy ends that day after the election.
ReplyDeleteThe black man blamed the white man. On the global stage they blame the American. The Americans blame the rich and ruling elite. Who will unite us and unify our resolve against oppression when there’s nobody left to save and no one left to blame. Perhaps in the inevitable chaos of charismatic leader will arise… Who will it be, a politician, a spiritual leader, the Savior himself. I think not.
They say that people are more often to be reminded rather than to be instructed. Dr. King did just that. He reminded everyone what America stood for originally. I do agree, that the location he chose for the venue to be perfect. I say perfect because that's the very reason what Abraham Lincoln wanted, to give blacks freedom. And yet as Dr. King stood that day, he notes that black men are still not free after the Emancipation Proclamation. He reminded the people of America that could not see the injustice they faced at that presented time. His purpose for that day couldn't have been more clear; matched with his powerful speech that roared with passion on the step of the Lincoln Memorial.
ReplyDeleteYou note that he is one of the handful of people that could do the task of stepping up to be a leader and face the consequences of revolting. I agree, I believe he is a prophet, he changed the world, he was not scared to step up for the people that fell silent when injustice was right in their faces.
Martin Luther King Jr. considered himself as an extremist of love. And also an extremist for justice.
I liked the way you ended your blog. The last line “Because of Dr. King, his people are now “free at last.” Made me realize that Mr. King had a great impact in the freedom of all his people. If it had not been for his willingness to stay strong and fight for his freedom, I wonder how long it would have taken for the people to be free.
ReplyDeleteWith the speech Martin Luther King Jr. led the way and opened the minds of the color blind society. The location of his speech was vital to its effect. The Lincoln memorial helped make an effect, Lincoln also fought for the freedom of the people. If President Lincoln had not stood for the people’s freedom, I think the suffering of people would have continued. Martin Luther King Jr. would have not been able to make able to make his speech.
People like President Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. made a big impact to the road of freedom. They both fought for people rights. It is interesting to me that if President Lincoln had not done his part to fight for people’s freedom; Martin Luther King would have not been able to do his. Martin Luther King Jr. speech inspired many more people and those people inspired more people to do something about their way of living and fought for change.
