Alien Invasion

The aliens are taking over! Our country is not safe!

Seriously? What’s with the ridiculous anti-immigration propaganda's?

Do these people realize that they are spreading hate and performing irrational acts? Do they realize that they are practicing hate propaganda? The technique used (if they are aware of their act) to spread this hate is called “Name Calling.” What is it? Well, it’s basically name calling or “a device to make us form a judgment without examining the evidence on which it should be based . . . by giving ‘bad names’ to those individual, groups, nations, races, polices, practices, beliefs, and ideals which would have us condemn and reject” (Institute for Propaganda Analysis). Don’t the pictures above nicely apply to that definition? This type of propaganda is a bunch of hateful words. And within those millions of anti-immigratns, many confidently spread them throughout the nation. I’ve seen  a lot of protesters that spreads a lot of negative words which I find somewhat offensive.

Why? This issue is personal to me since I have family members that are immigrants. Obviously! I’m Asian with Asian parents and grandparents and great grandparent and great great grandparents that are from Asia. My ethnicity was not born on this land, and so does yours; Native Indians were here first. Did people forget the history they learned in 5th grade? And if you remember you should be aware that throughout the American history, the United States can be a big bully. The most common “reason” why immigrants should be deported is because of job issues; “They’re taking our jobs!” Yes, they do come here for job opportunities; and isn’t that reason why everyone's ancestors’ migrated in the U.S. in the first place? Isn’t this country called The Land of Opportunity? So, can someone tell me exactly how immigrants steals jobs? There’s no sign or law that says “This Job Is For Immigrants Only.” And as for the illegal immigrant; they have no social security, how will they even get a decent job? They have to work with poor labor and get paid under-the-table with very low wages. Do the majority of anti-immigrants want those type of jobs? I wouldn’t lol.

Remember Arizona who passed an immigration law which allows police officers to ask anyone who they think is an illegal immigrant for proof of status? After kicking out a lot of illegal immigrants, mostly Mexicans, I heard that the law backfired. They said that Arizona is losing a bunch of money because of the law. I’m not sure if this is true or not but I can’t see why it could be false. Many companies had to get rid of their employees; less staff would mean slower production; slower production would mean slower profit; slower profit would mean losing a bunch of money. In my opinion, I find this law extremely racists. How would you feel if you as an American citizen were asked to prove your identity of residency or citizenship because you look like your from Mexico? Its not right.

I’m sorry to get all aggressive with this subject, but such harsh words are just horrible. I mean, only if anti-immigrant really have a good understandable reason why immigrants should leave then I wouldn’t be so *gaah* about it. But noooo, they had to say mean stuff. =’(

It saddens me that such hate still exists. When will people really unite and accept each other as brothers and sisters? <3

  1. Marlene, I can see that this topic is close to your heart. It is reasonable that you got emotional in your description of the subject. I have found it interesting that people are so contradictory when they want aliens out of the country, when at some point in time their ancestors were aliens as well. I am primarily Irish, with a mixture of many things, but predominantly Irish. My family from my mother’s side came here from Ireland on the Mayflower ship. The Irish were picked on viciously for many years because they too were seen as illegal aliens at that time. They were denied things that regular citizens took for granted. And the Irish were given bad labels or stereotypes during this time. You have probably heard about their drinking habits. I assure you, I am not a drinker, and my family is definitely not. I guess society just has this sort of trend. They like to make aliens responsible for the financial burdens and label them with stereotypical ideas. Aliens are seen as scapegoats. Moreover, I thought your pictures were very descriptive on the topic that you chose. Illegal aliens are definitely a controversial issue in this country, and I’m sure it will forever be, especially if they had it during the Mayflower time period.

  2. I do feel that the Arizona law/procedure and attitude about immigrants is racist and is based on hate, fear, and ignorance. I also agree that it would be completely crazy to be asked for my citizenship papers based on how a police officer’s perception of me. This can get complicated, since there are plenty of folks here in America that may have a look that suggests that they may be Mexican or otherwise Latino, but are not. Many Blacks and mixed race people can look Latino, especially in “light-skinned” families like mine. I have been mistaken for being Mexican or Latino almost every day of my life, and I’m sure that there are Native Americans, Arabs, Filipinos, and others who go through the same thing from time to time, especially here in California or elsewhere in the South West region of the country. I certainly don’t carry my birth certificate around with me, and I would go completely ballistic if I was demanded to provide such documents. I guess the best thing for non-whites to do is to stay out of Arizona until this illegal immigration situation is squared away. And I think that this is the overall message that Arizona is trying to send with their anti-immigration policies.
