Political cartoons can be nasty.
But, what is the true purpose of creating these cartoons? Is it to humiliate a political leader? Is it to offend the citizens? Or is it a just for humor?
Have I ever read a political cartoon that offended me? Kind of. But I don’t overreact over the cartoon. It’s just a cartoon after all . Even if the cartoon effects me even just a tiny bit, I like to keep in mind that maybe the cartoonist is just criticizing how silly our country is.
Our country has A LOT of issues with A LOT of hate. And A LOT of political cartoons contains A LOT of hate. That’s probably why the cartoons can be so hurtful. Too much hate is involved. Why is hate so easily expressed? Do people even try to understand the situation? Just like the picture below. People have been calling Obama names lately. Just because he was not able to achieve what we wanted him to do for all of us. We’re like little annoying kids. If we don’t get what we want, we end up crying and whining. Then blame the political leaders for everything. We expect them to do everything for us. Is that how we really want to look like, like babies?

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of political cartoons with hate messages towards OBAMA. I mean, a lot people voted for him, but now everyone just hate him with a passion. Are people really this “dumb”? No offense, I include myself in that category. But we all fell for his propaganda campaign. Anyways, I just feel bad for all the hate that is being spread about Obama. We blame him for all the nasty stuff that’s been going on lately. And the funny part is, we have little or no knowledge at all for what is really going on. We act like we know everything and act like as if we are smarter than the political leaders. They are human too, not gods. They will make mistakes like everybody else. But then again, our lives is pretty much on their hands (lol).
I really wish that all of political cartoons is for humor. The cartoon below made me laugh. The cartoonist drew the people really silly. One of them is a conehead. And that is exactly what we are, a coneheads (lol). Well, most of us. And the word “conspiracy is written on it.” We make up the stupidest thing ever. Why? Because we know so little. We try to figure out the situations ourselves, but in the end we usually just make ourselves sound stupid; like the people on the cartoon below.

We are just so silly. We say the darnest things. We are definitely like little children and our parents is the government. I do not mean to offend anyone with this blog. It is not my intention to hurt anyone. I’m simply just stating how I feel about why political cartoonists draw such things. Thanks for reading!

In your blog you stated: “Lately, I’ve seen a lot of political cartoons with hate messages towards OBAMA. I mean, a lot people voted for him, but now everyone just hate him with a passion. ReplyDeleteYou also stated: “We act like we know everything and act like as if we are smarter than the political leaders. They are human too, not gods. They will make mistakes like everybody else. But then again, our lives is pretty much on their hands.”
I agree with you, they aren’t perfect. But we also have to consider that all politicians, even Obama had to have a certain level of education and training to do their job; they wouldn’t have gotten that far in their careers otherwise.
The issue isn’t whether the politicians are educated on the issues, they are. The issue is why they became a politician in the first place. We need to vote for those who have the nation’s best interest at heart – not their own fame or greatness. To me, this is why the cartoons are so offensive. They attack the president’s intelligence when they ought not. Besides that, the president deserves respect whether we agree with him or not. We elected him, he is in a great position of authority and he has earned that respect. And we ought to respect him.

ReplyDeleteYou are so right about all the hate and how there were so many people that totally bought off on the “Change” campaign. I agree its so funny how we have such idealistic ideas about other peoples’ list of “To do’s” and yet we can rarely get everything done we intend to do. Add in all the opposition that he has faced and how can you expect him too?
I liked your point about how silly we can be. I think that some of would read things that we normally would not read just because it is funny. Maybe even just to see how ridiculous the opposition is. Sadly I must admit that some of these silly cartoons have actually showed me a different side of the coin, even when I really thought that I was agreeing with the right side.
I just had a conversation with my friend about politicians, and pastors actually, but I don’t think they go into it thinking how can I screw the nation, I think that it just happens. I don’t know many people that could handle having all that power, control. Along with this power and control you add a handful of people that are willing to die for you, with some serious opposition, it just breads a psychological shift.
I don’t think that your blog was the least bit offensive! I found it refreshing and well written.
2. Rebecca Morgan notes: “The issue isn’t whether the politicians are educated on the issues, they are. The issue is why they became a politician in the first place. We need to vote for those who have the nation’s best interest at heart – not their own fame or greatness.”
ReplyDeleteThis is a great point Rebecca, the issue relies heavily on these politicians and it’s not a matter of education; it’s a matter of what their intentions are. This is a strong statement, it’s something that is going on in every decision Obama does – there are simply people that like to be on the other side and create conspiracy theories or simply hate anything Obama presents. To me, I don’t really understand some of the people that hate Obama, maybe it’s just that, no one can understand why – maybe they hate because they don’t know what to hate and so they create a scapegoat. The second cartoon you posted was right on point – this reflects exactly what some of the American citizens act; it’s a perfect example of how some people are just throwing hate aimlessly. Maybe it’s a function of their mentality, and they’re just clouded with too many preconceived hatred due to a particular political figure, who knows? I believe we should shape up as a community and really consider about global issues and unity, this should be our main priority.
Who are these folks that look at an editorial cartoon and immediately call the ACLU or some other organization? I have often wondered.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure where I heard it perhaps in our reading, though, its kind of “a right of passage” to vote for some President then to ridicule him in the end for the poor decisions he has made. Well I did not vote for the guy and so I do NOT feel sorry for the editorial cartoons that ridicule him. Though I do not consider these editorial cartoons to be hate but as a way of humor to pick at him and make fun of the issue and the decisions he has made in “our best interest.” Many people will say a tomato is vegetable and others say it is a fruit. Just as you titled your bog, “A picture is a Thousand Words”, Editorial cartoons are not hateful it’s just how we interpret them. What is funny to one person is not always funny to others. Just as we may joke with one set friends in a certain way we can not also does so with another set.
As for conspiracies well I would sure like to know what is in Area 51? And why we are flying workers on private jets there if nothing is honestly there…hhmmmm?
I too have noticed in the past couple years all of the hate messages directed toward Obama. He has haters from both sides of the spectrum including the people who voted for him to be in office. I think that it is very easy for people on the outside to judge and criticize political figures. No one can even begin to understand what it is like being in a position like that however everyone thinks that they could manage the position one hundred times better if given the opportunity. Sometimes I wish that there was someway to give them the opportunity, I am willing to bet that the majority would reconsider their big talk and have a little more appreciation for our nations leaders. I personally think that in the case of criticizing the government we sometimes take our freedoms for granted. I mean, there are countries that would kill to be where we are and experience the freedoms we have. In some countries people are assassinated if they are caught criticizing the government. As far as Obama is concerned I think that he can handle the hate messages just fine. Being a politician it is all a part of the game. I think a political science course should be a mandatory class. I have found new appreciation for the things I sometimes take for granted along with ways to become involved with my country.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in what you said about how political cartoons can be, because there is so much hate in them. Many times these artists are just letting out how they feel through pictures because they find it easier to describe how they feel in this way rather then through words. These silly cartoons that people draw in order to express themselves end up hurting many people’s feelings because this picture tell stories in ways people can not in words. Just by looking at what the drawing are doing, the people in them, and their expressions is enough to tell a whole entire story with complete detail. I believe this is why so many people find these things so hurtful. I have encountered many ideas on cartoons that I don’t agree with, but I know I shouldn’t feel so offended because this is how some people communicate. This actually may be an effective way to communicate, but only in a strong way which might either be good or bad. I also agree with you that some of these artist use very good forms of making people look like they have cone heads because most of them don’t know what they are doing. Many people are blind to what is going on around them and just speak because they have a mouth. These drawing are a bit silly but effective.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I loved reading your blog it was really entertaining. I loved the pictures; it really helps to really understand the overall topic. It was nice how you commented on the pictures themselves and how you felt about the cartoons and the issue themselves. I do agree that there is so much hate in this world it really makes me sick. Yes I do think there are wrong things going on, but I’m not going to go tell the whole world how I feel. I will just keep my little comments to myself. I always believed the saying; if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. Even though we may disagree about what our political leaders are doing, we don’t need to make up things to make fun of them, it makes us look immature. I want us to be respectful citizens to our country. The cartoons can be really funny; the last one you posted made me laugh because it’s all-true. I think it’s okay to make fun of the system, but it’s not okay to make fun of people. If we make fun of them, what does that make us look like? It makes us look no better than them, so lets stop the hate cartoons.
ReplyDeleteHate hate hate, that is all most people can do now these days because they like to point fingers and place blame rather than take action in diminishing the problem. For most people it is easier to label something or someone as their scapegoat and keep asserting that whatever the scapegoat may be is the problem until they are blue in the face. However half-witted assertions will never make a problem disappear, it may actually make the issue even worse in some cases. Unfortunately hate is part of human nature and stems from fear and/or ignorance that is either taught or lies within the human psyche.
ReplyDeleteAs for the political cartoons, some are funny, some are plain stupid, others are just downright offensive. But that just goes to show the type of humor is expressed to depict the issues of the United States, and is usually done offensively. However it is not like political cartoons can be exterminated just people do not like them, because they have protection from the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to a degree. But if one truly wishes to not see anymore offensive political cartoons, all what that person really has to do is to not even look at it and just continue on to their day.
It is true that political cartoons can be nasty. They sometimes show crude or silly pictures of what is going recently in our country. I think the one I agree with are the funny ones but then I don’t think it is funny when I see one that makes fun of what I care about. Political cartoons are opinions of that one person that drew the picture, but it has a ripple affect towards the readers. Many times after dinner or during dinner, my family talks about politics and our discussion are mostly about the political cartoons or the opinion section in the paper.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it makes me mad when I see a cartoon that is mocking what I believe in. Some of the cartoons are full of hate, like you mentioned. It is sad that people can easily turn their backs on something they used to believe in and then to make fun of it too. People’s attitudes change like the weather. One day they are happy about what our government is doing but then the next day they are full of hate and anger because things are going the way the wanted it to. Like you said people are they whinny children of the parent government.
