Dood! i cant believe that i can actually type something for enligsh class without worrying about any grammar or punctuations lololol xD it feels good because im able to type freeeeeelyyyy ^-^ . . . i dont have to sound so formal and boring lol . . . i like typing like this because i can express myself easily . . . and by adding emoticons like ";]" or certain acronyms such as “lol” it can prevent miscommunication . . . for example:
you can easily tell the different between the two. each has a different tone. if i were to only type “youre mean” then you cant really identify the person’s tone . . . it sounds to plain and boring lol . .
another example:
the first line can sound mean, or it has no expression at all . . . but the second line adds a little bit of character and seems a lot more friendly =]
my online communication style is basically the way i talk in person . . . i like to add cute emoticons and acronyms onto my texts to express and share the tone of the exact sentence that i want to say . . . hehe i dont mean to sound all corny and silly ^^” i just like having a friendly connection with the person im talking to online . . . i dont want to have any awkward feeling between us u know? lol i like put a little bit of character lol ;]
when im happy i like to put a lot of happy faces ^-^ hehehe . . . when im angry i usually put a lot of exclamation points “!!!!!” or i would type in ALL CAPS! when im disappointed i usually put “....” at the end of the sentences . . . i know ive have a lot of “. . .” on this blog lol but i just wanted to end my senteces that way hehe no disappointment here ^-^” when im excited about something i would usually put a lot of exclamation points as well lol
anywhooo sorry if my writing style annoys the crap out of you lol this is just my personal way of typing things . . . i mean, im able to get to my point across and share information just fine lol . . . just like this blog =] i explained why i type like this lol . . . it did make sense right? lol xD and i dont need to sound all smart to get my point across lol xD i wouldn’t be myself if i were to try to sound like someone im not lol thats silly xD . . . BUT then again when it comes to essays i have no choice by try to sound smart as i can just for the sake of my grade hahaha . . . but i guess for this class it isnt working so well . . . bummer ;( lol
You’re mean! >=[
vs.
You’re mean! xD lol
another example:
I’m leaving. Bye.
vs.
I’m leaving. Bye! ^-^v
the first line can sound mean, or it has no expression at all . . . but the second line adds a little bit of character and seems a lot more friendly =]

I smiled the whole time I read your blog for this week. It was cute and funny and I do not think that you’re alone by using this kind of speech when online. This speech has taken over on the internet and there are varying levels of degrees for how crazy they can get with what they write. I think you’re pretty normal when it comes to your emoticons and acronyms, because I have seen way worse and sometimes I can’t even understands what they are writing. I think that like you said your communication style adds character and personality to your writing. It puts a little of you into the words your writing. And I could not agree more when you posted the two different examples of how just a few emoticons could totally change the tone of a sentence. I use these little faces all the time when I am texting and of course when I am on Facebook. I just like to let people know that I am happy :D or sad :(. It just helps to stop miscommunication with the other person and they can really grasp your emotions and your tone with these funny little faces.

ReplyDeleteI know this is irrelevant to the subject about your blog, but the layout is simply beautiful. Just thought I’d let you know. I’ve never responded to one of your blogs and I’m glad I did this time. Alright, well lets get to the point, the title is what caught my eye. At a lance I was confused about what it was about, but then I remember it was all about the way we speak and writing through texts or emails so then it all made sense. I agree with the fact that you said that you can express yourself freely when writing in your own style. Emoticons, do have a lot to do with the ways we take in things. How you responded to the blog assignment is all completely true, I bet a lot of us think the same way you do and agree with the way you describe your style of writing online.
Different emoticons are expressed through the different styles of writing styles online and I love the fact that we are not limited to these ways. The way you wrote this blog is actually understandable and I think others will agree, it isn’t extreme unlike some other things I have read in a text message fro a younger cousin or younger sibling, now that is ridiculous to another level. =)
Hello lene, good thoughts on your blog this week. It’s refreshing to read something that isn’t so riddled with proper grammar -- I have to admit, it’s easier to read, but I do think it’s sometimes necessary to be somewhat formal. Usually however, I communicate online the same way you do -- most of the time. You’re blog was funny and very true to what we call the “textspeak or online online language”. I agree that online communication is easier to understand if you speak with emoticons. Emoticons is a necessary thing to add to your sentences because it adds color to phrases. In other words, emoticons add expressions.
ReplyDeleteLol, I like how you expressed yourself, and yeah you’re right -- I easily understood you without any confusion with the style of writing you did this week. However, people that don’t spend a lot of time online will have a problem comprehending some of the things you said. For example, my parents wouldn’t be able to follow your ideas you’re trying to tell through your blog -- simply because my parents aren’t experienced with online communication. Overall, I enjoyed your blog, and I think you shouldn’t be restricted with the rules of grammar in blogs, because after all a blog is sort of like a journal.
To be honest, I refrain from using expressive communication because I believe that it just throws me off in replacing verbal communication. There are actually two times when I would use an expressive message: 1. When someone says something really stupid or vague. 2. When someone texts my name wrong. Nearly every person whom I have texted almost always uses expressive texting in order to communicate, although I never did see the point of doing so, I just thought that it was just unnecessary. Apparently it has meaning to them though.
ReplyDeleteI may feel that way because of my serious demeanor, because I always feel the need to text as I do talk in the real world in order to reflect my personality. As for text speak, I really try to refrain from using speech such as that, because I feel if I use it constantly I will be talking like that as well, ruining my speech mannerisms, and I think that it is not good etiquette to not talk properly when texting or communicating online. But this is an issue that I just live with, because if someone keeps speaking like that just because or to annoy me, I just stop talking to them, putting an end to that.
